Annelies: The Voice of Anne Frank
Sunday, March 16 2:30pm
St. Paul's Church
101 Prince St, Charlottetown
"Eight pounding hearts, footsteps on the stairs, a rattling on the bookcase.” Grammy®-nominated British composer James Whitbourn’s 'Annelies' opens on a harrowing scene, as Anne Frank and her companions-in-hiding come perilously close to being discovered. The hauntingly beautiful oratorio details their experience, with lyrics adapted from The Diary of a Young Girl. At times haunting, frightening, humorous, above all ‘Annelies’ is hopeful, as Anne was herself. As she wrote in her diary: “Where there’s hope, there’s life. It fills us with fresh courage and makes us strong again.”

Luminos Ensemble acknowledges that we live, work, and make music in Epekwitk (Prince Edward Island), which is located in Mi’kma’ki, the ancestral and unceded territory of the Mi’kmaq People. The Epekwitnewaq Mi’kmaq have occupied this Island for over 12,000 years. We honour the “Treaties of Peace and Friendship” which recognized Mi’kmaq title and established an ongoing relationship between nations.
